PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Portage Police are investigating a shooting at the Renaissance Banquet Hall in the 3700 block of East Kilgore Road in Portage.
Officers were dispatched at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday to multiple reports of gunshots at the night club. They had already been notified that a suspect in an armed robbery in Detroit was expected to be traveling with the “Shredgang” rap group, which was performing at the private event.
Officers at the scene found a 22-year-old Detroit man, who was a member of the rap group, shot in the face. He was rushed to Bronson Methodist Hospital by private car, where he was admitted in serious condition.
The suspect wanted on the Detroit Police Department warrant was also at the hospital and arrested on the armed robbery charge, and is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail until he can be transported to Detroit.
The gunman escaped.
