KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo teenager awaiting sentencing on one set of felonies has now been charged with a brand new list of charges after he allegedly fled from Phoenix High School armed with a loaded semi-automatic handgun Wednesday morning.
Chad Matthews, 17, is being held on $25,000 bond for carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He discarded the gun as he ran from police. They eventually tracked him down and recovered the gun.
At the time of his arrest this week, he was out on bond for getting caught with marijuana and a gun last fall.
He cut a deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty in exchange for having a felony gun charge dismissed.
He was due to be sentenced for those crimes in early April.
