KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Polls are closed in Michigan, and there has been a major upset in the Democratic race.
The Associated Press has projected that Sen. Bernie Sanders will win by a slim margin over Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Michigan.
Donald Trump has beaten all challengers on the Republican side in the Great Lakes State. Sen. Ted Cruz saw a surge in late voting to just nudge out Ohio Gov. John Kasich for the No. 2 spot. Sen. Marco Rubio settled in a distant fourth place.
Elsewhere, Clinton and Trump have won in Mississippi. Cruz picked up a win in Idaho, while Trump has won the caucuses in Hawaii.
In Allegan County, Republican Mary Whiteford has been elected to fill the Michigan House seat left vacant by the expulsion of Cindy Gamrat.
A sinking fund for Otsego Public Schools has won by a narrow margin, and a ballot initiative ratifying a zoning decision in Schoolcraft Township has also won.
A millage renewal for Fennville Public Schools has also passed by a wide margin.
Voter turnout was much higher than usual. Some precincts reported ballot shortages, with a few even running out of ballots.
