ALLEGAN (WKZO-AM) — Republican Mary Whiteford of Allegan County is one of three new Michigan House representatives that will be sworn in soon to fill empty seats that have been vacant for some time.
Whiteford ran against Cindy Gamrat and lost in the primary two years ago. This time out, she is replacing Gamrat, who was ousted from her House seat because of a sex scandal. Whiteford won by a wide margin in the heavily Republican 80th District.
Republican Gary Howell was chosen by voters in the 82nd District to replace Todd Courser, who was the other Representative involved in that sex scandal.
Democrat David LeGrand will replace Brandon Dillon in the 75th District. Dillon quit his elected position to become Chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party.
All three will serve out the remainder of the vacated terms. That means they will barely get a chance to get their seats warm before they may face re-election challenges in the August primary and will face re-election in November if they want to keep their seats.
