HOWELL (WKZO-AM) — A South Haven mother who had her two children in her car when she was arrested near Howell with a blood-alcohol level four-and-a-half times over the legal limit has been sentenced to five days in jail.
Tatum Vaneizenga, who was driving drunk with her infant daughter and two-year-old son, was also given two years of probation. Vaneizenga was arrested in December after she was discovered by officers parked along a highway ramp.
Vaneizenga was also been assigned to drug court, which is an alternative that judges say is a much better response to substance abuse than just time in jail.
She will have to address her substance abuse problem or face additional court sanctions.
