UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — GasBuddy.com says a spike in the cost of wholesale gasoline is to blame for pump prices jumping over 20 cents in parts of the state.
Analyst Patrick DeHaan said wholesale prices have been climbing since Monday.
“Wholesale prices have jumped some 10 cents a gallon, and have been continually increasing in the last four or five trading sessions,” DeHaan said.
DeHaan also said the increases will continue with many refineries entering scheduled maintenance so they can produce cleaner-burning and more-expensive summer blend fuel.
“Last few years, we’ve seen gasoline prices rise anywhere from 30 to 75 cents a gallon,” DeHaan said. “I would expect the same this year.”
The Michigan average has jumped 14 cents since Monday to $1.88.
The average gas price is $1.91 in Kalamazoo, $1.95 in Grand Rapids and $1.92 in Lansing.
