KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo is still looking for someone to purchase the city-owned Eastern Hills Golf Course after a potential buyer backed out of a $2.2 million deal in December.
Eastern Hills is profitable, but the city’s three courses don’t generate enough money to cover $250,000 in annual debt service.
Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association President Curt Wiser says the broker shopping the facility around is looking for a buyer that’s wants to develop the surrounding land, but maintain most of the 27-hole course.
“There’s going to be golf at Eastern Hills in 2016, and there’s probably going to be golf at Eastern Hills in 2017 and 2018,” Wiser said.
The group that was intending to buy Eastern Hills last June wanted to redevelop the course into residential and commercial properties.
