LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder has signed a bill sponsored by Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, that purges the word “policewoman” from state bills.
“‘Policewoman’ was a term used that was used to pay woman troopers less money than men,” Schuitmaker said. “This makes them equal.”
“Policewomen” will now be called “troopers,” like their male counterparts.
Schuitmaker is also co-sponsoring new legislation that would require every student learn CPR at some point during their high school career.
