KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A baby in Hartford is dead and a Benton Harbor man has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly causing that death.
Berrien County’s prosecutor says 30-year-old Brandon Tyler Beshires was supposed to be taking care of eight month old Carter Donovan last Friday morning while his mother was at a doctor’s appointment in Coloma. Instead, it’s alleged he caused trauma to the baby’s head.
Prosecutors say the baby’s mother, 31-year-old Autumn Atchley of Hartford, and Beshires later took the child to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, where he was pronounced dead.
In addition to the first-degree murder, Beshires is charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. He was arraigned Monday.
Bond has been set at $1 million.
