KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Hundreds were in attendance at Centerpoint Church in Oshtemo on Sunday for a vigil to celebrate the lives of the victims of Saturday’s shootings in Kalamazoo.
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley said he was glad to be in a community that prayed first, rather than wait until there were no other options.
“It’s a picture of what we can do in these times, when it seems like it’s impossible to even know what to say or even how to make it better,” Calley said.
There was also a vigil held in Battle Creek on Sunday at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for 60-year-old Mary Jo Nye, one of the victims from the Cracker Barrel attack.
There was a different vigil for 68-year-old Barbara Hawthorn, another one of the victims. It was held at Barney’s Bar in Battle Creek.
Two more vigils are planned Monday in downtown Kalamazoo.
Services are scheduled for noon at St. Augustine Cathedral, 542 W. Michigan Ave. Another event is planned at the First Congregational Church, 345 W. Michigan Ave., at 6 p.m.
