KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Members of the Western Michigan University chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity are enjoying warmth again after braving brisk temperatures under tarps for two days straight, all in an effort to raise money for the Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity.
Don Jones is with the non-profit and says the “Freezin’ for a Reason” fundraiser is an annual event under the flagpoles at WMU.
“They’ve been doing this now for about 13 years or so outside,” Jones said. “I know that we’ve all got images of frat boys in our head, but this is a different image that we’d love to burn into everybody’s memory.”
He says a decent amount of cash was raised before the event started.
“They had already raised $3,500 before stepping out in the wet snow, ” Jones said.
Jones said it would be likely the students would raise over $4,000 for the housing organization.
