KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A convicted killer who shot an unarmed customer at the Wayside West bar nearly two years ago has struck out on an appeal.
Orlando Mitchell, the former employee of the now-closed establishment, was charged and convicted after shooting Damian Tejada in front of multiple witnesses.
Mitchell, 25, claimed in his appeal that his attorney was incompetent and ineffective, but the appellate court judges rejected the claims.
Mitchell is still serving a two-year prison term for felony firearm. When that sentence ends in October, he will begin serving his 18- to 45-year term for the killing of Tejada.
