LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Michigan House Appropriations Chairperson Al Pscholka is happy with Gov. Rick Snyder’s plans to boost funding levels for infrastructure and education that were outlined in his $54.9 billion state budget proposal.
The proposal was unveiled last week.
Pscholka, R-Stevensville, also said, after saying in January there would be be “no blank checks” for the lead-poisoned city, he was fine with the $195 million set aside for Flint
But he also said the state must continue monitoring how money is being spent there.
“We have to continue to vet these things and make sure that we’re spending money appropriately for things that actually work,” Pscholka said.
He also agreed with the plan to use tobacco settlement funds for Detroit Public Schools debt, but also says big questions still must be answered.
“What does the governance look like, what does the structure look like, and how do we make sure this doesn’t happen again?” Pscholka said.
Pscholka, otherwise, said the budget is “solid” because it tackles the state’s major issues with only a fractional increase in spending.
