HARTFORD (WKZO-AM)– A Kent County professional driver is being blamed for causing a deadly, massive pileup on Interstate 94 near Hartford.
Timothy Martinez, 40, of Wyoming, has been charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death, which is a 15-year felony.
Carol Griesemer, 78, of Northville, and her son, Andrew Griesemer, 54, both died from injuries caused by the Jan. 17 chain-reaction collision that killed two people.
Lt. Dale Hinz says the charges are the result of a painstaking investigation, where reconstructionists attempted to chart the sequence of events and the path taken by each vehicle involved in the crash. Hinz said Martinez was driving too fast for conditions, which included slick roads and poor visibility.
Fourteen people were injured in the pileup, which involved a total of 44 vehicles.
Martinez has also been charged with two counts of reckless driving causing bodily injury.
Twenty other drivers have already been mailed citations for driving too fast for conditions.
