KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A teenager from Kalamazoo accused of causing a fatal crash in Portage during a high-speed chase with police last month has waived his preliminary hearing and will go straight to trial.
David Mills, 17, is charged with driving without a license, causing the death of Crystal Norton, 33, of Paw Paw on Jan. 9. Police say Mills had sped his vehicle up to 80 mph on city streets prior to the wreck.
He struck Norton’s vehicle on Oakland Drive as she was pulling out of a driveway. The single mother died at the scene.
Mills is also charged with first-degree fleeing and eluding.
