KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo Civic Theater has announced the start of a $5.1 million fundraising campaign to refurbish the over eight-decade-old downtown facility.
Executive Director Kristen Chesak says $4.1 million will go toward essential repairs and maintenance, including the replacement of the auditorium’s original copper roof.
“Then we’re looking at some production equipment upgrades, some IT upgrades, then we’re going to take $1 million and increase our endowment, so we have the future funds to repair the great things that we’re going to be upgrading,” Chesak said.
She also says the campaign is off to a strong start.
“We already have the support of our community in the amount of $3.8 million,” Chesak said.
They’re hoping to have the rest of the money raised by May. You can donate to the project here.
