KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The City of Kalamazoo is looking to the future this weekend, at least many of its officials are. Friday night the city’s Planning Department kicked off a year-long visioning process to as they come up with a ten year Master plan for development and community improvements.
They turned the atrium at City Hall into sort of a living room with tables and chairs, plants even a bean bag chair and a giant chess set as an informal setting for sharing ideas.
Planning Director Laura Lam says they intend on holding a variety of sessions like this during every Art Hop, town forums, online chats and a number of other gatherings for brain storming.
They also plan to engage in research and consult with experts on city planning.
The goal of the year-long community engagement process will be the 2025 Master Plan.
Kalamazoo City Commissioners will be holding a day long retreat Saturday to talk about their more immediate priorities for the city. It will run from 8:30 a.m. into the afternoon.
