KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A wayward driver caused a flood Thursday morning in Oshtemo Township.
An unnamed driver hit an icy spot and clipped a fire hydrant along 10th Street near Litchfield Lane. Utility officials estimated as much as 100,000 gallons of water spilled into the yard of a duplex, turning it into a pond.
Workers initially thought it was a water main break when they arrived at the scene.
Utility trucks were able to remove some of the water, but not before a couple of basements flooded.
The driver didn’t stick around. He was tracked down later and his insurance company may get the bill for cleaning up the flood.
