GALESBURG (WKZO-AM) — An autopsy is planned on the body of a crash victim who went undiscovered Sunday night after he was seen by a witness leaving his wrecked van, apparently collapsing in the darkness behind a business across the street.
That’s where his body was found the next morning by the business owner.
Det. Russ Richardson says they did their best to find the driver, even bringing out a police dog.
“We had some idea who it was because we did have another agency contact the owner of the vehicle,” Richardson said.
Richardson said investigtors will wait on autopsy results to verify the man’s identity and determine a cause of death or whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
“We’re going to wait on the toxicology report before we can say for sure,” Richardson said.
The victim is believed to be from Detroit. He was found with a rifle and compound bows.
