EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Emmett Township Public Safety says it had to pull an older woman aside for questioning this week after she attempted to pay for gas with a film prop.
Lt. Kenneth Cunningham said the woman claimed she didn’t know she was trying to use a photo-realistic $100 “movie bill” at the Shell station on B Drive, and only found out after giving it to the clerk.
“When she marked it with a marker, (she) realized it was fake,” Cunningham said. “Then, looking at it a little closer, it had the (phrase) ‘for motion picture use only’ on it.”
It was taken from her safe that day, and she told detectives the bank may have given her the bill.
Cunningham said they closed the case without charging the woman.
Officers were alerted to a similar story posted to Facebook about a month ago, but Cunningham said the department opted to not investigate the incident.
