MOTTVILLE (WKZO-AM) — Animal cruelty allegations have been leveled against a St. Joseph County couple for keeping exotic pets without a permit.
Investigators say they owned a pet store in Indiana that closed, so they brought work to their home near Mottville.
Investigators found wallabies, flying squirrels, a monkey and other wild creatures. Law enforcement is now working with Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek to find a temporary home for the animals.
The couple could be formally charged with animal cruelty and keeping the animals without permits on Friday.
