KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Western Michigan University political science professor has big plans if he defeats incumbent Fred Upton in November’s race for the 6th District’s U.S. House seat.
Paul Clements, D-Kalamazoo, wants to rebuild American manufacturing through better cooperation between government and business.
He also wants more money for farming.
“We’ve got a growing population, we’ve got a growing middle class in China and India, and my goodness, in southwest Michigan, we’re an agricultural area,” Clements said. “But our government has dramatically reduced our investment in agricultural research.”
Clements picked up 41 percent of the vote in his 2014 loss to Upton, R-St. Joseph.
Upton’s staff said the congressman will focus again on job creation and growing local economies if elected to a 16th term.
