PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation says it’s thinking about installing a roundabout at County Road 653 and M-40 in Paw Paw.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa says the feature would suit the area well.
“It’s a five-point intersection, it’s got a couple of really bad turn angles to it and some sight-line issues — clearly, there’s a safety concern and a history of crashes there,” Schirripa said. “It’s something that’s been on our radar for a bit.”
He says discussions are being stimulated by the successful installation last year of the Sprinkle Road roundabouts near Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo.
“They’re more than what people expected, they’re working out well, we’re getting lots of good feed back about them — that helps us going into this discussion,” Schirripa said.
They’re hoping for a 2017 construction date, but Schirripa also says it’s too early to discuss hard timetables and construction costs.
The agency met with Paw Paw residents about the proposed intersection on Wednesday.
