CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, COLO. (WKZO-AM) — A suspected double murderer is fighting extradition from Colorado after Berrien County authorities say he killed the mother of his children and her father, then snatched his two young daughters and fled the state last week.
Alex Perez, 24, has asked the judge in Clear Creek County for a court appointed attorney.
Memorial services were held Sunday for Renee Mitchell, 27, and father John Mitchell, 67, on Sunday. An autopsy confirmed both were bludgeoned to death in their Coloma home.
Perez left with one of their cars and both of Mitchell’s three-year-old and four-year-old daughters.
Both children were well when police caught up to Perez outside Denver.
Warrants charging Perez with two counts of first degree murder, and other counts have been issued by prosecutors in Berrien County.
