KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Schools would like to hear from current students, staff and graduates of Loy Norrix High School on what they think their school should look like.
Thanks to a bond sale approved three years ago, it’s the next district building due for a facelift.
The plan is to keep the basic structure, but to replace the 55-year-old single-pane windows and aqua panels, which have faded over time. The plan is to replace them with something more energy-efficient.
There are also security concerns, depending on the type of glass and doors they install. They can use reflective glass, which can prevent people from seeing inside the school.
Titus-Pinkster Architect Jason Novotny said they want public input. There is a survey on the district’s website, which you can find here.
Overall, Novotny said they’ll be replacing 65,000 sq. ft. of glass and 92 exterior doors.
They have about $5.5 million to spend on the project.
