BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A protest supporting a 13-year-old girl facing expulsion after stabbing an accused bully in the neck with a pencil on a school bus in Battle Creek did not go on as planned.
On the Battle Creek Parents United Facebook page, organizers said they opted against holding the weekend event because “emotions were running high” and because they wanted to protect the integrity of the investigation into the incident. They also said the decision came after the group talked with the mother of the Springfield Middle School student.
The teen, who claims she was the target of vulgar language, is currently suspended and is facing misdemeanor assault and battery charges after striking the 12-year-old in the neck. She was facing a felony before last week.
The boy was not seriously hurt and is said to be recovering from a minor injury. It’s not clear if he is facing any disciplinary action.
