KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to drive a semi-trailer full of help to Flint on Saturday.
“We’ll have a 50-foot semi sitting along Lamont Street, right in front of the sheriff’s department, and we’ll be collecting bottled water,” Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said. “We’ll be doing that right up until 2 p.m. and at 2:01 p.m. the doors will close and that semi is taking off for Flint.”
Matyas said the water will be given to Flint residents who can’t run their taps because of the city’s lead-poisoned water supply.
“All you have to do is drive up and we’ll unload it for you,” Matyas said. “The sheriff is going to be there all day, shaking your hand.”
Matyas says sheriff’s deputies will only accept sealed bottles of water.
Bottled water is also being accepted at the Mount Zion Baptist Church on Roberson Street through Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office is located adjacent to the county fairgrounds.
