KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo Township man who fled the area after shooting his brother-in-law in the head has cut a deal with prosecutors, pleading guilty to a second-degree murder charge.
Timothy Salo, 29, shot and killed Jason VanOstran, 29, in 2014 at Salo’s home in the Sherwood Forest Mobile Home Park near the Kalamazoo County Fair Grounds.
Salo initially claimed VanOstran had shot himself, but pathologists said evidence refuted that claim.
A warrant was issued and Salo was tracked to Lansing and arrested. The prosecutor agreed to drop open murder and gun charges, but Salo will still be sentenced as a habitual offender.
