PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz says his agency knows what caused Sunday’s pile-ups on Interstate 94, and they plan a comprehensive investigation to determine who was driving too fast for conditions.
Troopers plan to apply the same investigation model utilized during last year’s pile-up near Galesburg to figure out who is responsible for causing another pile-up on I-94 Sunday near Hartford. Forty-two vehicles, including five semitrailers, were involved in a chain-reaction collision that killed one person and injured 15 others, three critically.
Hinz said drivers have to slow down.
“Increase that following distance and be ready for rapidly-changing weather conditions along the lakeshore,” Hinz said.
The eastbound crash killed 78-year-old Carol Griesemer of Northville.
Hinz said they will submit their findings to the prosecutor for citations and possible criminal charges.
