FLINT (WKZO-AM) — President Obama has declared Flint a federal disaster area, which should make federal aid and assistance available to local governments, agencies and property owners, who are dealing with contaminated water.
It will also provide some reimbursements to local governments who have already spent money to deal with the crisis, dating back to April 2014.
It also authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinated all disaster relief efforts to “provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in Genesee County.”
That means FEMA will be providing water, water filters, water filter cartridges, water test kits, and other necessary related items for a period of about three months.
Gov. Rick Snyder requested the federal assistance late last week.
