PORTAGE (WKZO) — Family members have identified the woman killed by a Kalamazoo teenager who was being chased by Portage Public Safety officers on Saturday night.
33-year-old Crystal Norton of Paw Paw was pulling away from a home on Oakland Drive when the teen smashed into her car at a high rate of speed.
Kalamazoo Public Safety had broken* off their pursuit of the teen earlier in the day because it’s their policy not to chase cars only wanted for traffic violations, but they did issue a request for other departments to watch for the car.
It was based on that advisory, that Portage Officers tried to stop the 17-year-old driver.
Norton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teen driver could learn what charges he will face in court today or tomorrow.
