ALLENDALE (WKZO) — Have you noticed that the chance of winning the Powerball Jackpot at 292-million to one, is actually smaller than the $800-million in the jackpot.
Would it be possible to guarantee a win by buying 292-million tickets at $2 each, knowing that one of those tickets has to have the winning combination? Not really.
The cost of the tickets would exceed the income from the Lump sum.
GVSU Statistician John Gabrosek says even if the Jackpot continues to rise and the potential payback grows, only a few men in the world would be able to afford that bet, and even then it would be a major gamble, because someone else could also come up with the winning number.
Gabrosek says there are a lot better ways to invest that money.
You are more likely to be eaten by a shark or become President than win tonight’s Powerball drawing.
About the only thing that statisticians have found you are less likely to do than win the Powerball jackpot, is to fill out a perfect NCAA bracket for March Madness before the first tip off. The odds of that happening are 1 in 9.2 quintillion.
