UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — We aren’t sure why, but just hours after AAA predicted the price for a gallon of fuel would go down this week, gas prices spiked to $1.99 a gallon at many gas stations throughout the state.
Patrick Dehaan with GasBuddy.com says it’s hard to explain why gas prices are the way they are in Michigan.
“They declined again, then jumped up to $1.99,” DeHaan said. “We just keep rinsing and repeating.”
But he anticipates that, with crude selling at $36 a barrel and the spot price in the Great Lake region dropping 10 cents Tuesday, prices will begin to fall again soon.
“That should provide some nice room for retailers to begin dropping gas prices a bit more expeditiously,” DeHaan said.
The website will issue its projection for the year this week. DeHaan says lower prices will hold at least through the end of the year.
