ALBION (WKZO-AM) — The teenager who was struck and killed along Interstate 94 after running away from the Starr Commonwealth home near Albion has been identified as 17-year old Antonio Martinez of Flint.
His mother told WOOD-TV that she had no idea why he would leave the treatment facility on New Year’s Day. She talked to him the day before, saying Martinez was upbeat and looking forward to completing his treatment and returning home.
The teen was struck by a minivan in the westbound lanes of the freeway near 26th Street, which is about a quarter-mile from the facility. The driver, a man from Indiana, required treatment for minor injuries and is said to be recovering from the wreck.
Martinez’s mother has set up a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs.
