GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) — Meteorologists with the National Weather Service say December saw record-setting warmth in west Michigan.
Evan Webb with the Grand Rapids forecast office says, even with seasonal weather finally hitting the region after Christmas, the average settled at an unprecedented 39.4 degrees.
That’s a whopping ten-degrees above average. He says it also makes it the warmest December in West Michigan since they started keeping records in 1893.
He says that’s a 10-degree difference from the more typical average for December, which is around 29-degrees.
Webb says a strong El Nino helped push the mercury past the old mark.
