KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — They threw a party at Varsity Apartments that didn’t exactly raise the roof, but it did drop the ceiling of the apartment below it.
A spokesperson for the apartment complex says there were just too many people in the fourth floor apartment early Wednesday morning, and the weight caused the trusses to fail.
That cracked the plaster and brought down the ceiling of the apartment below it, when the trusses started to bow.
The tenant below managed to escape when cracks started forming but before plaster and insulation began to fall.
The complex provides housing primarily for WMU Students. Its located just to the West of the WMU Campus.
The Students who threw the party will be responsible for repairs, and it will likely cost them a lot more than their damage deposits.
