PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police say they’ll be busy this New Year’s Eve scanning highway and freeway traffic for drunk and drugged drivers.
Sgt. Matthew Waters with the MSP post in Paw Paw refused to disclose how many additional troopers will be out for the holiday, but did say the increased presence will be noticeable.
“The enhanced patrols are grant positions funded by the Office of Highway Safety and Planning and they’ll be out looking for intoxicated drivers,” Waters said.
He says impaired driving arrests on New Year’s Eve have been trending lower.
“Because of the media campaign that’s been put out there, a lot of people tend to be more cautious and won’t drink and drive,” Waters said.
The additional officers will work through New Year’s Day.
