BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A parole absconder who had a small arsenal of guns when he was cornered by police at a residence on West Minges Road is scheduled to make a court appearance Tuesday.
Anthony Gates Jr. will learn if there is enough evidence to head to trial, and on what charges. The 19-year-old was arrested just before Thanksgiving.
Police say he had robbed another residence the same day he broke into the West Minges Road home.
Investigators say he was gathering up guns and jewelry when officers, who had been alerted by neighbors, surrounded the place. After a standoff that lasted a couple of hours, an unarmed Gates was found hiding in a crawlspace.
Officers found the stolen items taken from the initial robbery in his truck, including ten guns. He is also suspected in a number of other burglaries in the area.
