PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — The search continues for the third member of a theft ring that was caught stealing items out of unlocked cars on Chapel Street in Portage early Christmas morning.
They think he fled into Gourdneck State Game Area early Friday.
Detectives are also working to return some of the stolen items they found in the van owned by one of the suspects. That vehicle was seized Friday morning.
If it’s the same group, they may be responsible for over four dozen separate auto burglaries in the last week in Portage, Mattawan and Lawton.
Police in Portage plan to huddle with Michigan State Police and compare notes on Monday.
The men who spent their Christmas weekend in jail are charged with larceny from a motor vehicle and possession of an illegal financial device, but more could be filed.
