JACKSON (WKZO-AM) — The vast majority of the 183,000 Consumers Energy customers who lost power Christmas Eve are now back on the grid, and only about 13,000, primarily to the north of Grand Rapids, remain in the dark as of Sunday morning.
Most of them should have their power back by the end of the day.
Spokesperson Roger Morgenstern says they will mop up the most-difficult and remote outages on Monday. He says repairs are ahead of schedule because of the nice weather, but deteriorating conditions could slow things down or create new outages.
They have 1,700 workers assigned to make repairs, including 300 from out of state.
They have issued one advisory to help workers. They’re asking customers to be aware of crews working along roads. Drivers should slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they safely can get past workers on roadsides.
Michigan law requires drivers to slow down while they go around the flashing amber caution lights used by electric and other utility vehicles. Bright signs, cones and other temporary traffic control devices are also used to alert motorists.
