GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — They’re not calling it the warmest on record yet, but the National Weather Service says they’re having trouble comparing this December in west Michigan to other Decembers in the past.
Meteorologist Jared Maples had to dig deep in his almanac to find anything close.
“You look back into the 1982 era, and there were times where we were breaking some of the December records,” Maples said. “1941 is another year where we had some December records that had fallen.”
Temperatures remain above average, but Maples says the mercury reached extraordinary levels during the middle of the month.
“The 13th and 14th, we were exceeding 20 degrees above average,” Maples said.
Temperatures are expected to remain elevated, but dip closer to seasonal marks next week.
