MARSHALL (WKZO-AM) — High school students in Albion are already going to Marshall Schools because of financial problems in the Albion School District.
Next month, their numbers will swell.
On Tuesday, Marshall’s school board voted 4-3 to add Albion sixth, seventh and eighth-graders to the district after the holiday break.
The board has already voted to pursue a full-blown annexation next school year, turning over the elementary grades and the Albion school facilities, if the Marshall board concurs in January and Albion School District voters approve the move in May.
None of the votes have been unanimous. There are concerns in Albion that the community will lose some of its identity and be less attractive to developers if it gives up its schools.
Others say its best for the kids. School children in Albion have seen severe program cuts because of the financial struggles.
