LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Michigan House Minority Leader Tim Greimel, D-Auburn Hills, is calling on Gov. Rick Snyder to veto several bills that were in a package rushed onto the floor on the last night they were in session, proposing controversial election reforms.
Among them, a change that gags school districts right before millage elections. Another takes restrictions off the use of dark money and robocalls.
That bill, combined with the elimination of straight-ticket voting, are pure politics and only muddles elections, Greimel said.
“(These) are blatant attempts by the Republican majority to do anything, including changing the rules, to keep themselves in power,” Greimel said.
He’s calling on the governor to do what he says is the right thing.
“My hope is that Gov. Snyder, who has always held himself out as a non-partisan and bipartisan governor, will do the right thing and veto both of those bills,” Greimel said.
He claims the Republican majority approved the measures as far away from the next election as they could, hoping people would forget.
