BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County judge has sentenced a Homer man to 32 years in prison for shooting his ex-girlfriend.
Prior to sentencing, he called it “a Christmas miracle” that Angela Bass did not die after she was shot by Brett Baldridge on Dec. 23, 2014.
Baldridge was convicted of assault with intent to murder and other charges after he shot Bass with a shotgun as she slept at her home in Marshall, leaving her permanently disabled.
Investigators say Bass had been in an abusive relationship that she broke off. She testified at trial that Baldridge stalked her after the breakup and threatened to kill her.
Baldridge was given 20 to 40 years in prison on the assault charge. Two years were added for using a gun to commission the crime. Another 10 to 20 years were also added for the home invasion, served consecutively.
Baldridge, 42, will be eligible for parole when he is 73. He has already been in jail a year waiting for his trial.
