KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety’s newest group of officers have taken their official oaths.
It happened during a ceremony at Kalamazoo City Hall on Monday.
Chief Jeff Hadley said the students had to go through extensive and intense training to become a PSO. They not only had to learn law enforcement but also cross-train as firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
“They will hit the streets in the early part of January and they’ll be in field training in early May,” Hadley said.
They won’t be ready for patrols on their own until June.
Hadley said the badge attracts people from all walks of life.
“Pilot, banker, and folks that have chosen to do this with their life when they could have chosen to do other things,” Hadley said.
The new officers participated in a scavenger hunt on Monday, which gave them an opportunity to meet with merchants, agency employees and other citizens.
