GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — Police in Grand Rapids say they’re now investigating a convenience store robbery as a possible hate crime after the clerk was called an “ISIS terrorist” before getting shot in the cheek.
The clerk at Bottlenecks on Fuller Avenue Northeast is from India and does not practice the Muslim faith.
Investigators say, after he handed over cash, the man was forced into a back room, where he was forced to kneel. The gun was then pointed at his head.
The clerk recovering at home. The robber has not been identified.
