DEARBORN (WKZO-AM) — AAA of Michigan says it was surprised by last week’s jump in the statewide average gas price.
Spokesperson Susan Hiltz said it was particularly shocking because crude continues to trade at lows not seen since 2009. She said the jump could be an extended response to Thanksgiving, when prices were so low that gas stations found themselves losing money.
“It might be the market correcting itself,” Hiltz said. “But that’s just a guesstimate from our viewpoint.”
She also said all indicators point to prices falling this week.
“We don’t expect any large jump and we’re really expecting more of a downward trend,” Hiltz said.
The statewide average is up seven cents to $1.91 a gallon. GasBuddy.com says the Kalamazoo average is $1.89.
