KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Staff, nuns from the Sisters of St. Joseph, and hospital officials attended a celebration marking Borgess Medical Center’s 125th anniversary Tuesday afternoon.
They took a glimpse into a time capsule that was built into the Lawrence Education Center 25 years ago during the 100th anniversary, putting it back in and adding some new items.
DVDs and other computer disks were inserted into the capsule in place of quarter-century old VHS tapes.
Linda Root, the vice president of Borgess, said Tuesday’s event was a chance to reflect on the past and resolve to do better in the future.
“We have been part of this community for 125 years, to care for those who are struggling and the most-poor and vulnerable,” Root said. “That was our mission 125 years ago and that’s still our mission today.”
The celebration concluded with a prayer service. The capsule was then resealed.
