PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — The superintendent of Portage Public Schools is getting a raise.
Mark Bielang’s pay will jump three percent to just over $201,000.
The decision in favor of the pay hike came during a board meeting Monday, with trustees crediting Bielang with assisting in the passage of $144 million bond proposal last month.
The money from the bond issue is being set aside for two new middle schools, new high school swimming pools and football stadiums, and 30 new school buses over the next five years.
The district is expected to approve the purchase of six of those buses from a Holland-based company next month.
It’s Bielang’s first raise since 2013. The increase is also coupled with a extension of Bielang’s contract through 2017.
