KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The city of Kalamazoo asked for community input on a new ordinance regulating stadium lighting and public address systems, using a new approach that aggressively seeks public opinion.
They got plenty of that, but few of them agree there is an ideal solution. Additionally, the compromise that staff has come up with from community discussions isn’t very popular.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell says the buck stops with them.
“There’s not always consensus on what it means to do the best thing for the community,” Hopewell said. “That’s why you six individuals and myself are up here, to try to navigate that through.”
They approved it for first reading last night. Unless there are more revisions, it will be voted up or down in two weeks.
